Fantasy Camp

Would you like to meet baseballs' best third baseman and one of the nicest guys to ever grace the diamond?  How about to hang out with him along with other Oriole greats such as Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer, Earl Weaver, Boog Powell, Jim Gentile, Rocky Johnson, and more!?  What about batting against Ross Grimsley with Elrod Henricks calling the pitches with Brooks at the hot corner?  Well, you can as I did at the Orioles Fantasy Camp.

This week, I must tell you, was the best week I could have ever imagined!  Besides hangin' out with the pro's and a bunch of other baseball nuts, I managed to play two games each day, get into a Homerun Derby, and into the playoffs for extra games.  My team, The Rock, was managed by Oriole great Rocky Johnson throughout the week.  A combination of a great pitching staff, a solid defense, and a very productive line-up with the lumber enabled The Rock to get through the playoffs and win the Camp Championship.

But the fun didn't end there.  Each of us were invited back for a Reunion Game in which we played at Camden Yards!  Yes, home of the modern birds and one of MLB finest ballparks.  Talk about feeling like a pro for a day.  We changed in the Orioles locker room, took BP in the cages below the stadium, listened to our game by a play-by-play announcer and watched our highlights on the stadium screen.  The Rock had a rematch of our championship game from camp and we regained our Championship title.

 Cooperstown Tournament

Downtown Cooperstown

An extension of the Fantasy Camp experience is the opportunity to play in the weekend Cooperstown Tournament the week of Induction Day.  Teams were assembled for a three-day tournament on the historical Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, New York.  This field hosts the annual Hall of Fame Game and has seen every ML star from Brooks to Banks, Aaron to Mantle.  Oh, and by the way.... when you're not playing you get to tour major league history at the National Baseball Hall of Fame!
